One Step Forward for Accountability

On Sunday, June 21, I had the great pleasure of joining Manny Badillo and his family at the street renaming for his uncle, Thomas Joseph Sgroi, in the Borough Park section of Brooklyn. Thomas died on September 11, 2001, leaving behind two loving children, and a family steeped in fond remembrance of all he brought to the world.

New York City Councilman Simcha Felder joined the family to honor Thomas, and kindly shared some words that summoned only the fondest memories of Thomas.

At the end of the ceremony, Manny asked Councilman Felder to sign NYC CAN’s petition for a new, impartial investigation of 9/11. Councilman Felder enthusiastically agreed and also had his assistant sign the petition before putting on a NYC CAN button and posing for a photo with Manny and I. He was impressed by NYC CAN’s informational materials and promised his support in getting the petition through City Council. Manny and I, and everyone at NYC CAN, look forward to working with Councilman Felder and our other representatives to establish the kind of non-political investigation every American, every New Yorker and every family member deserves.

Thank you, Councilman Felder!

Ted Walter
Executive Director
